Lumen is a proposed exhibition of photographic works exploring the idea of transition in spatial, temporal, and conceptual terms. The setting for all of the images is the Conesville Power Plant, an energy nexus connecting Appalachian coal country with the people and places of central and southern Ohio. Located near Coshocton, Conesville provides the electricity that powers the lives of nearly a million Ohio residents and businesses.
Lumen weaves together my background in fine arts photography, environmental studies, and urban planning. That background, along with a collaboration involving the employees of Conesville, and extraordinary access to the facility over multiple site visits, resulted in this visual archaeology of energy conversion.
